How you can help ?
A. Volunteer Teaching
1. Non -Dental Professional
You do not have to be a dentist to volunteer with Better Earth Non-dental individuals make up as much as 60% of each volunteer team.
Things you can do as a non-dentists
Tooth Brushing / Dental Hygiene Instruction
This is a great job for anyone who has lots of energy and loves kids. You will team up with a local community member to creatively and interactively teach kids about the importance of good dental hygiene and how to take care of their teeth. Think games, songs, and fun!
2. Dental professional
Better Earth- welcomes volunteer dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants to join our volunteer teams travelling to Tanzania
Better Earth -Dental care project mission is to provide dental care and oral health education to children with little access to a dentist. In partnership with local organizations, field clinics are set up at schools and municipal facilities.
In these clinics, children receive an exam, restorations and extractions as needed, a cleaning when possible, a fluoride treatment, sealants, and oral health instruction. Care is provided primarily to restore permanent teeth, and children are recalled every two years to ensure long-term health.
Along with toothbrush instruction and nutrition counseling, each child receives a fluoride varnish treatment. We are committed to treating a school every 1.5 to 2 years to improve the oral health of each child and instill a culture of good oral hygiene for generations to come.

Supplies & Equipment Needed:
- Fluoride Varnish – Each child receives a fluoride treatment
- Anesthetic – We need large amounts of anesthetic and can use anesthetic close to the expiration date
- Amalgam – Our clinics use large quantities of amalgam, which is always in short supply
- Sealants – Etch and sealant material
- Composites – Etch, bonding agents, composite material, polishing supplies and matrix bands.

- Spoon excavators
- Round burnishes
- Condensers (small)
- Surgical instruments (most common varieties only)
- Handpieces – slow and high speed
- Cavitron tips
- Supplies – The project uses a wide variety of common supplies including:
- Face Masks
- Gloves (all sizes)
- Gauze (2” x 2”)
- Bibs
- Bib clips
- Dental floss
- Small equipment – Ultrasonic cleaners, amalgamators, cavitron units, curing lights
- Toothbrushes – Each child receives a new toothbrush, so please donate any brushes you have available. Our projects use 15,000 toothbrushes a year!
